Feisty Feathers is updating!

I am in the process of moving the site over to WordPress. Unfortunately, re-coding every article individually was just too much of an undertaking, especially if I had to do it again every few years. This new platform will hopefully allow me to make formatting changes easily. However, I still have to manually move all my articles over so this could take a while.

The old site is still up and running while I make the transition. You can view it here.

Thank you, and I hope you enjoy the new look!

Purpose of this Website

I created this website to help you, the bird owner, give your pet the best care possible.

While I do sell birds, the primary function of the website has always been to educate fellow bird owners. Most people grow up with dogs and cats and have at least a general idea of how to care for them properly. It’s easier for humans to “read” other mammals. Dogs and cats have been domesticated for thousands of years, and while some birds have been domesticated, very few parrots have. As prey animals, parrots have many unique idiosyncrasies. Bird behavior is completely foreign to the most people and it can lead to a lot of miscommunication. I strongly believe that education is key to providing birds with safe and loving homes.

About the Author

I have been keeping birds since 1991 and have worked with budgies, cockatiels, kakarikis, Indian ringnecks, Brotogeris, various conures, and a few other Australian parakeets. I have a B.S. in Animal Science from Cal Poly Pomona and studied Avian Science for two years at UC Davis, where I was co-president of the Avian Science Club. My articles have been published in Bird Talk, the ASA Avicultural Bulletin, as well as various bird club newsletters. I’ve had the pleasure of giving talks on kakarikis and general bird care.
